HOT AIR BALLOON PROPAGANDA

What is said by Hot Air Balloon pilots is often misleading.  Often it has a profit motive.
1. A person falls in love with hot air balloons
2. Learns to fly a hot air balloon gets pilot license
3. Buys hot air balloon envelope, burner and basket = expensive
4. In good American tradition decides to $ monetize their hobby
5. Starts flying passengers to subsidize their hobby
6. When the “Hot Air Balloon WatchDogs put out the truth = they go
   ballistic
7. Send us nasty emails and lie about accident rates
8. Their passion is 70% profit motive and 30% love of flying hot air gas
         bags.

The number of accidents is low.  This makes it appear that balloons are safter than fixed or rotary wing aviation.  Wrong!  An annual rate of 20 balloon accidents contrasted  1,900 general aviation aircraft accidents gives us a different look.

Here are some older statistics from the National Transportation Safety Board.  In our requests to Congress we have asked that better statistics and detail be kept on Hot Air Balloon Accidents.

FOUR TIMES THE ACCIDENTS AS FIXED WING AIRCRAFT
The number of Hot Air Balloon accidents is  lower but the rates of flight accidents per flight hour for hot air gas bags, ends up over four times that for general aviation aircraft.  Hot air balloons are certainly not as “safe” as commercial “hot air gas bag” flyers would want you to believe.

NEWER STATISTIC’S ARE GOING TO START SHAKING THE HOT AIR BALLOON WORLD
1.  There are more hot air balloons flying as more join the sport.
2.  More high voltage power lines are being built = power consumption going
    up.
3.  We push Congress for better reporting and prosecuting pilots that under
report accidents or just plainly criminally dodge filing reports.
4.  As more people find there are no requirements for commercial balloon pilots
selling their service to have insurance.
